European Escapades

Nana P Diary Part 5

Dearest Jessica,

Look at that big crate of strawberries
Look at that big crate of strawberries.

It’s been a while since I last wrote to you, sorry but internet access is difficult on most campsites and Grumps usually spends a lot of time doing his web page. We are also learning Spanish on the computer so that takes up a lot of our time at least an hour or 2 every day, it’s quite good fun and we often laugh at our poor pronunciation of some words. But we are being understood in shops and restaurants and learning new words all the time. We watch C Beebies in Spanish most days too, and I think of you watching in Chatteris.

My reason for writing to you today is a little something that made me think of you. Mum and Dad may tell you of my love of fruit and vegetables and now we are in Spain they are both very big and very tasty. Yesterday I brought a 2 kilo crate of strawberries for 2 Euro’s. I could not believe my eyes they were so big and so tasty, I thought it was my lucky day. As you are now approaching 3 months old Mummy may soon be introducing you to the delights of mashed fruit and vegetables and It made me wonder what you would think of your first taste of a strawberry. I can just imagine the look on your face as you take your first bite. Maybe when I come back in June we can share some together (none for Mum, Dad or Grumps though).

Not everyone like carrots
Not everyone like carrots.

Another food tasting story comes to my mind and you may be on the verge of trying this yourself. When Uncle Andrew was about 12 weeks old I was encouraged to try him on mashed fruit and vegetables, just a spoonful or 2 at a time. Uncle Andrew took a great liking to carrots and was soon eating the whole bowlful that I had cooked for him. One day I noticed his face was very orange coloured in particular his nose. I was very concerned this his Yellow Jaundice had returned that he had at 3 days old and we had to stay in hospital for over a week. They put him in an incubator and I couldn’t hold him, it was a sad time for me. So I rushed him to the Doctor just across the road and the Doctor laughed and told me it was all the carrots he was eating that was turning him orange. It may happen to you too, so watch out Mummy !!!

Talk to you about Spain again soon; be good for Mum and Dad. Love Nana P XXXXX

Jessica said “Hi Nanny, if you want to learn Spanish then check out ‘Handy Manny’, it’s mainly on Disney Playhouse but I watch it every day, he teaches you spanish as he is south american as is some of his trainee tools he brings over so he has to teach them the english equivalent of the spanish term”

Can’t say fairer than that I guess.
